Consultancy and Media Work

As an experienced consultant, Dr Nicola O'Donnell is regularly asked to provide insight into various projects. Most recently this has included developing the service provision for a paediatric oncology retreat, e-learning for typing one diabetes and disordered eating with a media company, and developing a novel resource focused on fertility preservation for young boys undergoing cancer treatment.

Nicola offers a valuable skill set that enhances the creation of media content whilst prioritising high level duty of care towards both audiences and contributors. Her expertise allows her to ensure that psychological themes and health topics are portrayed accurately and sensitively, fostering a responsible approach to storytelling. Nicola is able to collaborate with writers, producers, and directors to integrate psychological insights that ensures accuracy and authenticity but also protects the well-being of those involved in the production, including cast, crew, and viewers. She is attuned to the ethical considerations required when depicting mental health issues or sensitive health topics on screen. Her role includes conducting thorough content reviews to prevent the perpetuation of harmful stereotypes and to promote accurate, evidence-based information. Nicola can offer guidance on creating a supportive environment for contributors, ensuring that their mental health is considered throughout the production process. Her goal is to contribute to productions that are impactful and responsible, promoting positive health outcomes while safeguarding the well-being of everyone involved.
